Multipurpose Newcomen Engine is the first advanced piece of smithing machinery. It is used to construct various other items like loom, bicycle or Diesel Engine. Adding one of five different machine attachments changes the function of the tool. It requires full bucket of water, basket of charcoal, and a source of fire to run. The machine base plus all of its components requires 11 Iron Ore to craft.
Crafting[]
To build a Newcomen you will need in total:
- 4 Stone Blocks
- 2 Small Curved Branch
- 5 Straight Branch
- 11 Iron Ore (4 iron ores and 7 steel ingots)
- 3 Raw Rubber Tire
- 2 Rope
- 1 Yew Branch
- 1 Flat Rock
- Kindling, Bucket of Water, and fire for fuel.
Newcomen Atmospheric Core[]
Newcomen Atmospheric Core is a machine part, consisting of three iron components and a vulcanized rubber tire. You will need to smith three pieces of Wrought Iron to construct the core. Fire a piece of Wrought Iron at a Firing Forge using Wooden Tongs and place on a Flat Rock. Hit with a Smithing Hammer to choose the part to craft. Smith one each of Crude Piston (make two, you will need it for later), Crude Cylinder and Large Tank.

Add a rubber tire to the piston to make a Crude Piston with Seal. Carve a hole in the large tank with a chisel. Combine the cylinder and boiler, then add the piston with seal to get Newcomen Atmospheric Core.
Assembly[]
Choose a place for the Newcomen; it should be close but not next to the forge, one tile away on the right side is the best placement. Put stakes there and hit it with a round stone 5 times until you get pit stakes, then use a mallet on them to turn it into Newcomen Tower Stakes.
Place four stone blocks. Stone blocks are made by digging up a big hard rock with a shovel. Then cut it in two with a chisel and a mallet. Separate each half and shave the irregularities with the chisel and the mallet. Out of one big rock, you get two stone blocks.
Add a pump beam kit, which you make by combining two straight shafts and two curved shafts.
Add the Newcomen Atmospheric Core.
Add a rope. | |
Add a yew shaft. This can be made by shaving a yew branch with a sharp stone. |
Newcomen Hammer[]
Newcomen Hammer is made by putting a Crude Piston on Flat Rock and then adding it to the Multipurpose Newcomen Engine.
Creating all the other mechanisms requires the Newcomen Hammer. It can also be used to scrap iron parts, like crude cylinder, back into a wrought iron, or crush stone or bauxite into powder. To use it, add a full bucket of water and a basket of charcoal, then light the fuel with a firebrand. It can then be used for 20 seconds.
Mechanism Creation[]
Add full bucket of water and a basket of charcoal to the Newcomen Hammer. Add a basket of charcoal to the forge with bellows, then light both with a firebrand. Grab wooden tongs and heat a steel ingot in a firing forge and then touch the firing Newcomen Hammer with it. Each time the hot metal is used on the firing Newcomen Hammer, it will flatten further into different parts.

Roller Mechanism[]
To make the Roller Mechanism, the Newcomen Hammer must first be used to make two Large Pulleys. Heat two steel ingots in the forge and the touch the firing Newcomen Hammer three times with each. When the large pulleys cool, add them to a long straight shaft. The Roller Mechanism can be stored in a or on the ground. It counts as an extra large item, so its storage and movability is limited.
Newcomen Roller is used to make rods of various kinds.
Bore Mechanism[]
To make the Bore Mechanism, the Newcomen Hammer must first be used to make one Small Pulley and one Large Pulley. Heat two steel ingots in the forge. Touch the firing Newcomen Hammer twice with one hot steel ingot and thrice with another. The first will make a\the small pulley and the second the large pulley. Whey they cool, place them on a long straight shaft. Use a Raw Rubber Tire on the disconnected mechanism to get a Raw Rubber Belt. Vulcanize the raw belt in a hot oven, then add it to the Pulley Drive Mechanism. Complete it by adding a steel blade, the same that is used to make a steel knife. (The Steel Blade can be removed again to swap for a lathe mechanism)
Newcomen Bore is used only to drill holes in rods and steel piston blanks. It makes pipes out of rods and a pump valve jacket out of a steel pipe. It doesn't require materials to be hot or held in wooden tongs.
Lathe Mechanism[]
The Lathe Mechanism is a variation that uses the same Pulley Drive Mechanism as the Bore part. A steel blade is attached to a tied short shaft to get the lathe head, which can then be added to the pulley drive. The Bore blade can be removed and the same pulley drive re-used for the lathe mechanism and vice versa. It is not necessary to construct two pulley drive mechanisms.
Newcomen Lathe is used mainly in building a Diesel Engine. It is also needed to make a loom and sprinklers. Necomen Lathe doesn't require items to be hot or held in wooden tongs to be transformed.
Drill Mechanism[]
Drill Mechanism requires use of the Newcomen Hammer, Roller and Lathe to make. Heat a steel ingot in the forge and use it on the firing Newcomen Roller twice to get a thin steel rod. When it cools, pick it up by hand and touch the Newcomen Lathe to turn it into Drill Bit. Add the drill bit to the Pulley Drive Mechanism.
Newcomen Drill has only one purpose: to make a Draw Plate, necessery for building a loom and creating wires.
